Would you move to the mountains if you could get a seasonal job?

Considering the tight job market everywhere, whether in a city or a ski town, would you consider taking a seasonal job to get you started in a mountain town or do you feel that would be too risky and that you will only go if you get a job in your career field?

Many people start this way when they move to the mountains even in a good economy. It gives people a chance to get more involved in the community, priorities and perspectives often change and it can lead you into to a full-time job.

If this is something you could afford to do, have you even considered it? If not why? Not possible or fear?

I live in Boulder just a few hundred yards from the mountains and would love to move up into the mountains for clean water, clean-air and quiet. The things holding me back are my young kids and all the driving we would have to do. also, there are very few roads into the mountains that don't make me nervous. there are not enough houses in those locations with easy roads and flat driveways, so it's unlikely we'll find the right place anytime soon!
Ahh, not fear of the unknown, fear of the mountain roads and driveways. I kind of remember that in the areas around Boulder when I lived there, it was my first move away from the east coast and I had some scary drives up towards Vail/Aspen, I was not used to it. Once I moved to Jackson, much of the valley is pretty flat for day to day traveling (unless you are driving Teton Pass every day). When the mountains aren't the right fit (at least for the moment), outdoor cities like Boulder are a pretty good second best!
a friend told me that around here, there are always mountain homes for sale because city people get all excited and move to the mountains until they have their first car crash, then they sell their house. also forgot to mention that I'm waiting to find out about a mountain town with a whole foods store, lol.
Park City! Whole Foods and very accessible, a little over 30 minutes to the SLC airport. I believe they have good schools too!
Yes, I am definately interested in a summer job in the Colorado mountains.
I would like to come back every summer to work.
If anyone knows of a job where I can work in the Colorado mountains in the summer and in a warm climate in Arizona in the winter, please let me know.
My kids are grown and the rest of my family reside around Denver and I would like to be near them in the summer.
I would move to the mountains with a seasonal job, if I had a small farm/ranch to live on so that my animals would be safe and comfortable.
Hey Shelley, Have you checked out YMCA Rockies In Estes park to see if they have any seasonal opportunities?

Oh yeah! I have a seasonal job in Catalina right now, so a seasonal mountain job would be a dream come true!

In a heartbeat! If anyone knows of work on a resort that involves skiing (among others) I would greatly appreciate the help. Please see my resume' on mountain jobs website or ask me anything.
For those who are specifically looking for ski season, seasonal, the majority of resorts will do the majority of their hiring in the fall, October/November. You'll notice a few postings online out there already but most of the advertising and job fairs for the ski season will take place in the fall.
We have three kids and we need decent pay and health benefits. If we can find this we'd move in a heart beat.
I would probably take the risk if I could afford it but I have been out of work basically since early 2007. While driving as a team driver (with ex-fiance), he was severly injured while we were under load. Not knowing the severity of his injuries, we continued to drive until February 2007 when we returned to Texas so he could seek medical attention. After seeing several doctors and having numerous tests, we learned he had sever back and nerve damage so this put us both out of work. During this time, we received the devastating news that my oldest sister had terminal cancer and was diagnosed with only months to live. After hearing this, I put my life and job search on hold to move in and become a caretaker for my sister until we lost her January of this year. I currently live with my younger sister and have been constantly searching for employment. I am wanting to take some online courses to further my career but need to find work before I can do that.
