Recently Moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA

Hi Amy,

My name is Paul Benbow, and I recently moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA last October where I am now enrolled in college obtaining my degree in Wilderness Education. In every moment of my spare time I am hiking the many trails throughout the Tahoe Basis no matter what the weather. For the past couple of months though, all of our trails are covered in snow which means that I'm either skiing or snowshoeing. Unfortunately, seeing as how I recently moved here, I haven't met many…

Ski town perspective, 10 thoughts that come to mind

The more I read about the different perspectives of how job seekers, recruiters and employers feel about the current state of the economy and how it is affecting their lives, the more I started thinking about how choosing an alternative lifestyle, in this case, a resort lifestyle, can shift your perspective away from what many consider the norm. Money, career, lifestyle, even fashion, may start to take on a new meaning after settling into the ski resort lifestyle.

I try to follow a… Continue

We recently started blogging on our website, www.blueribbondurango.com about lots of fun things about Durango. Check out Shaheen's post on why she moved to Durango (floating down the river) and more. I've taught snowboarding, worked at hotels and restaurants and… Continue

Colorado Ski Pass Hot Deal

Rocky Mountain Super Pass prices for next season have just been announced. Three popular Colorado ski resorts, unlimited skiing and riding at Winter Park and Copper Mountain plus 6 days at Steamboat for only $399.

$399 will get you about 3 or 4 days of skiing at many resorts so there is doubt about it, this is a deal! Skiing is such a happy, mind-freeing sport, I am sure this will make many Colorado skiers even happier to have the opportunity to purchase a pass that is so… Continue

Transitioning life and career from the city to a ski town

How do you make the move to a ski town, find work/life balance, and enjoy plenty of time in the outdoors while still continuing to build your career? Good economy or not, this is what mountain job seekers often want to know.

Not much information out there about the engineer from Jackson Hole or Vail and their ski breaks on a powder day! It is not that these professionals in ski towns are not important people in their communities (quite the contrary), but when you are “surfing” the… Continue

Welcome to the new mountain community network!

We have just launched the mountain community network & ski town connection this past weekend, a space for you to talk about life in the different mountain communities, what is going on and what is not!

I have heard the word “daunting” used more than once to describe the feeling when trying to get from A to B, leaving a more traditional lifestyle, and picking up and moving towards a lifestyle that almost seems surreal. It’s actually very real, but it can take some creative… Continue
