Recently Moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA

Hi Amy,

My name is Paul Benbow, and I recently moved to South Lake Tahoe, CA last October where I am now enrolled in college obtaining my degree in Wilderness Education. In every moment of my spare time I am hiking the many trails throughout the Tahoe Basis no matter what the weather. For the past couple of months though, all of our trails are covered in snow which means that I'm either skiing or snowshoeing. Unfortunately, seeing as how I recently moved here, I haven't met many people yet who are into hiking as often as I do. I'm trying to meet more people who like to hike so I can find myself a hiking partner. But I'm also trying to find jobs which particularly keep me in the outdoors. I have an opportunity this coming May to start some volunteer work at the local wildlife center here, but unfortunately, it's not a paying job. My main trade is metal fabrication, however, I am highly skilled in the following areas: heavy equipment operation, automotive repair, industrial millwright, construction, backcountry guide, and working with livestock (horses and cattle mainly). But I have many other skills as well and so my employment search is quite vast because I can do almost anything, and what I don't know, I learn quickly. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time locating any work here in this area simply because I'm not finding many places where jobs are posted. Do you, or anyone else have any advice for me? I can be contacted at: paulbenbow1@hotmail.com.

Are you in school full-time and looking for a summer seasonal job or are you looking for year round. You may want to contact the local ski resorts and see what positions they will be hiring for during the summer. Also, camps in the area that may have opportunities for you to teach kids in and about the outdoors.
